Why is a wedding ring worn on the ring finger?

Traditionally, the wedding ring was worn on the fourth finger from the right on the left hand for a symbolic reason. It was the belief that your vein in the ring finger ran directly to the heart. This means when you wear your wedding ring, it is as close as possible to the bloodline running to your heart.
