Throughout Five Nights at Freddy's campaign, Gregory will have to sneak around roaming animatronics, survive gruelling boss battles and hide from the various inhabitants of Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex. In short, it can be a tough ride, but it becomes significantly more manageable with a few key strategies under your belt.

For those looking to ace their adventure through Steel Wool's latest take on the Five Nights franchise, here are some tips and tricks for Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach that'll keep you alive against the Pizzaplex's nightmarish residents.

Know Your Hiding Spots

One of the easiest ways to survive being stalked by Chica, Monty, Roxy or any of the other hulking animatronics haunting the Pizzaplex is to hop into one of the mall's various hiding spots. These come in all shapes and sizes, including lockers, bins, laundry baskets, pushchairs, food stalls, photo booths and even Freddy himself.

The game won't directly point out hiding spots, so it's mostly up to you to figure what you can use to evade capture. Learning what is and isn't a hiding spot early can save you a lot of pain in the later parts of the game. The main hiding spots that will crop up in the core areas of the Pizzaplex are the parts and service baskets (pictured in the middle of the image above), bins (pictured on the righthand side of the image above), photo booths and pushchairs (pictured on the lefthand side of the image above), so they're the key ones to learn.

Entering hiding spots can also be finicky if you don't approach them the right way. After reaching a hiding spot, ensure you're facing it head-on and the "press square / E to hide" prompt is on-screen. Try not to double press the button while entering, as it'll cancel the animation.

Rely On Your Cameras

Keeping tabs on animatronics as you're sneaking around the Pizzaplex can be challenging. They're often fast and the size of areas means they can disappear and reappear without warning. However, you have one tool the animatronics don't: access to the various cameras dotted around each area.

These are the most powerful tool in the game once you become acquainted with them, allowing you to plot paths through areas while sitting safely in a hiding spot. Although the cameras can seem cumbersome at first, they're incredibly useful during some of the game's tougher encounters.

If you're struggling to reach an area without drawing attention, jump into a hiding spot, pull up the cameras, locate the animatronic you're trying to avoid, plot a route to another hiding spot and then head there. You'll be able to repeat the process until you're home free.

Listen to Animatronics to Keep Tabs on Them

Something you'll notice during your time with Security Breach is the animatronics make a lot of noise. These social butterflies will talk your ear off if they get the chance, and although listening to Roxy tell you that you've got no friends is one of the coldest burns in recent memory, you can use these taunts to your advantage.

While navigating through the Pizzaplex, make sure to mentally note the direction a taunt is coming from, which animatronic is saying it and how loud it is. If the voice is loud and directly in front of you, an animatronic is probably very near. Quickly look for somewhere to hide and pull up your cameras to check exactly where the threat is coming from.

Additionally, you'll be able to hear loud footsteps when an animatronic is next to you and get a small audio cue when they're lurking by a hiding spot. For example, when Roxy is outside a hiding spot, you'll be able to hear her sniffing for you. It's a good way to avoid being caught out in the open without needing to pull up the cameras.

Save As Often As Possible

The animatronics in Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach are incredibly powerful. Every single one will be able to finish Gregory off by catching him just once and, bar a few specific scenarios, there are no checkpoints you can easily jump to when that happens. The only way to make sure you're not replaying long stretches of the game after being caught is to make save points a regular part of your routine.

When the game trends towards more linear sections, it'll usually offer you a convenient save station to stop off at during your travels. However, the more open scenarios will leave a save spot somewhere in the level and it'll be up to you to remember to regularly log your progress. Keep saving in the back of your mind and return to a station after completing an objective.

Remember that it also takes a few seconds to save, so running to a save point mid-chase isn't a great idea...

Use Sprint to Break Line of Sight

When Chica, Monty and Roxy spot you, it can be tempting to bolt to the exit of the area in a bid to save yourself. Unfortunately, trying to outrun a pursuer usually isn't a wise idea. While you'll initially be able to put distance between yourself and an animatronic, Gregory's stamina meter will eventually run out and he'll run at a pace perfect for an animatronic looking to snag itself an easy meal.

Instead, the best use of the stamina bar is to break line of sight and lose your enemy. When spotted, find a corner or pillar you can use to exit your enemy's vision. Sprint to it and look for a hiding spot. If you're quick (and lucky) enough, you should be able to evade your pursuer and wait for them to return to their regular patrol. Make sure you're memorising the layout and hiding spots of each area as you move through it. That way you'll be able to quickly think up an escape plan if you lock eyes with an animatronic.

Use Freddy as Much as Possible

Although Security Breach centres on Gregory's attempt to escape the Pizzaplex, it also focuses heavily on Freddy Fazbear. For the first time in the series, the titular animatronic is a force for good, helping the player throughout their adventure. Freddy's services can be key to fending off threats, and although his power meter drains as you use him, he's a useful crutch that you should lean on as much as possible.

Freddy mainly acts as a moving hiding spot, allowing you to clamber inside his stomach and pilot him past wandering threats. He can also be called to Gregory whenever he's available, making him a good way of getting out of tricky situations.

For the most part, it's worth remembering that Freddy's power meter drains slowly and recharge points are common. When he starts running out of charge, leave Freddy and find a recharge point. You don't need Freddy to enter one as he will teleport to you once you go inside the booth.

Security Bots Aren't Sensitive to Noise

During your adventures through the Pizzaplex, you'll run into several security bots guarding core areas. You'll discover fairly quickly that these patrolling machines don't take kindly to unexpected visitors. They'll pick you up, sound an alarm and cause an animatronic to spawn behind you.

Dealing with these automatons can be a nuisance, however, there's one good strategy that's worth learning. Unlike Animatronics, security bots don't care about how much noise you make. If you sprint past them, they won't bat an eye, making navigating around them much easier than the more threatening inhabitants of the Pizzaplex. Use this to your advantage as you attempt to evade them.

Rely on The Fazer Blaster and Faz Camera

One for the late-game players, the Fazer Blaster and Faz Camera make surviving some of Security Breach's end-game sections significantly less punishing. These weapons can be acquired from Fazer Blast and Monty Golf at 04:00 AM and, when utilized, can stun an animatronic while it's in pursuit. Some enemies aren't affected by the attack (Monty Gator's shades prevent him from being stunned, for example), but it gives you ample time to find an escape route if you're attacking Chica or Roxy.

All you need to know with both weapons is that you should aim for your foe's eyes. Both weapons also have ammo that automatically reloads. The Fazer Blaster offers several shots you need to be more accurate with, while the Faz Camera is easier to stun with but only has one shot before it recharges. Once you have both tools down, they're essential to surviving Security Breach's most gruelling encounters.

5:40 AM

Another tip for those reaching the end of their Security Breach run, 5:40 AM should be the longest twenty minutes of Gregory's life. If you want to find all the collectables, explore each location and generally master the mall, 5:40 is the time to do it. To be precise, that's directly after leaving Roxy's Raceway and heading to Parts and Services to install the Ocular Upgrade.

The reason 5:40 AM is so crucial is that Security Breach prevents you from saving once the clock hits 06:00 AM. That means one death, one crash, one power cut could wipe hours of progress. It's not worth the frustration, so get every last thing you want done before you give Freddy his all-new eyes.

Another idea is to create a new save file at 5:40 so you can see how Security Breach ends without losing the ability to save. To create one, save your game, click choose another save slot, and click new save.

Don't Mess With Cleaning Bots

A tip that's worth keeping in mind while navigating most general areas of the Pizzaplex, cleaning robots shouldn't be messed with. These mostly-docile automatons will keep to themselves, mopping floors in several parts of the mall. They won't automatically signal for help when seeing Gregory, however, that's not to say they aren't capable of ruining your day.

If you walk up to a cleaning bot, it will offer you a warning, putting its hand up. If you walk closer, an alarm will sound, spawning an animatronic behind you and forcing you to run away. It's best to just leave these peaceful robots to their cleaning...
