AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (2023)

Three years ago, AEW officially introduced itself to the world via its very first show, Double Or Nothing. That initial PPV was so good, and etched AEW's name into the wrestling landscape so deeply, that Double Or Nothing has since been considered by some to be the biggest show of the year for the promotion. Double Or Nothing will return for a fourth time this year. Whether you think it's AEW's biggest show of the year or not, odds are there will still be a lot to like since Tony Khan continues to limit himself to just four PPVs a year making them all feel big.

This year's Double Or Nothing will air live from Las Vegas Nevada on Sunday, May 29, 2022. The main card will begin at 8 pm EST on BR Live if you live in the US, or Fite TV for those of you everywhere else in the world. There will also be a one-hour Buy-In show beforehand which you can watch for free on Fite or on YouTube. Every match confirmed for Double Or Nothing so far can be found below.

Hangman Page vs. CM Punk for the AEW Championship

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (1)

CM Punk returned to wrestling last summer and one question has been on the minds of so many of his fans ever since. When is this man going to get a World Title shot? Punk has been putting on some terrific matches recently and is well and truly back in his stride. It felt as if the winner of his match with MJF earlier this year would decide who would get a World Title shot next. Punk won, and hey presto! Here he is staring down the barrel of a showdown with Hangman Page.

This will almost definitely be a pretty terrific match. What's harder to call is who will win. Most fans will probably agree that Page's pursuit of the title has been better than his reign. AEW needs to decide if it's going to push forward with Page as its champion or switch the title to Punk. Punk's time back in wrestling will be finite. This could be the only chance to make him World Champion in AEW.

Thunder Rosa vs. Serena Deeb for the AEW Women's Championship

Thunder Rosa brought Britt Baker's lengthy Women's Title reign to an end earlier this year and since then, other than a successful defense against Nyla Rose, Rosa hasn't had much to do. That changes at Double or Nothing when Serena Deeb gets a well-deserved shot at dethroning the new champion. These two might not have clashed much on-screen at the time of typing this, but Deeb has worked her way up the rankings via a terrific series of matches with Hikaru Shida.

Despite Deeb's impressive showings and very much deserving this match, it seems unlikely that she will be winning gold in this one. This feels like a match where AEW can point to the fact it still pays attention to its rankings as there isn't really another viable challenger for Rosa at this moment in time. It'll be a great match and Rosa will retain.

Jurassic Express vs. Team Taz vs. Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland for the AEW Tag Team Champions

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (3)

The tag division is arguably the strongest thing about AEW. That's why this match could well steal the show at Double or Nothing. Jurassic Express has held the gold for quite a while now, but leaving this match with that reign intact will be a tall order. Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy will defend the titles against both Team Taz and the newly formed duo of Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland.

As for who wins, even though the tag division is still very strong, it does feel like it's time for the titles to be on a new team. For some reason Team Taz doesn't feel like the right pick, so Strickland and Lee to win this one. If nothing else it'll give them something to keep the pair occupied until they get better singles pushes.

Jade Cargill vs. Anna Jay for the TBS Championship

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (4)

Jade Cargill is on quite the tear, something that has fans pretty split since prior to AEW, she hadn't technically wrestled a single match. Cargill is yet to lose, winning 31 matches so far and winning the TBS Title along the way. At Double or Nothing, Anna Jay will attempt to strip Cargill of her gold and her undefeated streak.

Jay is pretty inexperienced herself having only wrestled around 20 more matches than Cargill. That could result in both women being shown up pretty badly, or both showing they are quick learners who already have what it takes. As for who wins, Jay's great, but it's hard to imagine she will be the one who brings Cargill's streak to a grinding halt.

MJF vs. Wardlow

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (5)

No one does a slow build like MJF, and this one has been great. Wardlow has been trying to break free from MJF's contract, jumping through all sorts of hoops in order to do so. All of those hoops are now behind him apart from this very last one. Beat MJF and he's free, but if Wardlow loses, he can never sign a deal with AEW.

Hopefully, there should be no doubt as to who s going to win this match. This angle has turned Wardlow into a fan favorite, and when he beats MJF on Sunday, the roof might very well come off the arena. He can then move on to even bigger things, hopefully without MJF trying to ruin everything.

Adam Cole vs. Samoa Joe in the Men's Owen Hart Tournament Final

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (6)

The first-ever winners of AEW's Owen Hart tournaments will be decided on Sunday. On the men's side of things, Adam Cole will do battle with Samoa Joe in an epic clash of former NXT Champions. This one is going to be great, and apparently, the winner will be awarded a new title by Owen's widow, Martha Hart.

Fans have been getting on AEW's back about the lack of push for Cole. This is the perfect opportunity to answer that critique, especially with Joe's focus seemingly being split between AEW and ROH. Have Cole win this and massively raise his stock in the process.

Britt Baker vs. Ruby Soho in the Women's Owen Hart Tournament Final

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (7)

In the women's tournament, just two days before Double or Nothing, Ruby Soho booked her spot opposite Britt Baker. Baker has been on a warpath through this tournament as she bounces back from losing the Women's Title to Rosa. These two have clashed before, and even though the aforementioned title was on the line, this match is arguably even bigger.

Despite Baker arguably being one of AEW's pillars, Soho needs this win so much more. The only potential hiccup is the backlash from in-house fans her win over Kris Statlander received. A heel Baker rubbing the salt into that wound might fit the new narrative a little better.

The Young Bucks vs. The Hardys

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (8)

Everyone stay calm, it's happening. Yes, we know it's happened before, but never on a stage as big as this. The Hardys and The Young Bucks will clash at Double or Nothing. No ladders, no gimmicks, just two of the best tag teams to ever do it going to war on a huge stage. Perhaps one of the biggest generational clashes in tag team history, and it's almost definitely not going to disappoint.

It feels like it's been a while since The Bucks picked up a really significant win, and outside of winning the titles, it doesn't get much more significant than this. The Hardys' run in AEW should be all about elevating younger talent who will be around once they've retired, and that's exactly what needs to happen here.

Jericho Appreciation Society vs. Blackpool Combat Club, Eddie Kingston, Santana, And Ortiz

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (9)

Two factions warring, a PPV on the horizon. This feud really did seem , but apparently not. The Jericho Appreciation Society's first match together will be an Anarchy in the Arena match. The rules of the match aren't clear, but it's likely just another name for the Stadium Stampede match since this show won't go down in or near a stadium.

JAS hasn't felt like that much of a big deal thus far, and this is AEW's chance to rectify that. A win here would be big, and it would also move whatever Blackpool Combat Club has next forward. The two teams that make up JAS's opponents in this one can bicker over who costs who the match and eventually have a six-person blow-off match, perhaps for those incoming Trios Titles.

House of Black vs. Death Triangle

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (10)

This match feels somewhat lost on this card. Don't sleep on it though as doing so might result in you missing the match of the night. There's an argument to be made here that all six of these stars could and maybe even should be competing for big-time singles titles. For now, they're clashing in trios action, and will likely be top contenders for those aforementioned titles.

Who wins this one almost doesn't matter, until those titles are introduced of course as the first challengers may well be determined by a new set of trios rankings. Prediction-wise, House of Black has a little bit more steam than Death Triangle right now, so Malakai Black's team to win this one.

American Top Team vs. Sammy Guevara, Tay Conti, and Frankie Kazarian

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (11)

13 matches on a PPV card and no room for the TNT Title to be on the line. At least in this instance, there's a way for it to make sense. While the TNT Title has been at the center of the feud between Scorpio Sky and Sammy Guevara, a lot more people have gotten involved along the way, hence this match coming together.

Guevara and Tay Conti, whether intentional or not, have become unbearable. Throw Frankie Kazarian into the mix who is only teaming with them out of necessity, and it's hard to see anything other than an American Top Team win in this one.

Kyle O'Reilly vs. Darby Allin

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (12)

WWE has been accused of trying to get too many people on the WrestleMania card in the past. This match feels a little like AEW trying to do the same thing with Double or Nothing. In case you don't remember, The Undisputed Elite attacked Darby Allin, Sting, and The Hardys a couple of weeks ago. The attack that led to Sting being sidelined. That's why this match is happening.

Both of these men could have arguably been in Sunday's men's Owen Hart final, so both have a point to prove. However, Allin really shouldn't have lost to Jeff Hardy so should really be picking up a win here.

Hook and Danhausen vs. Tony Nese and Mark Sterling

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Guide: Match Card, Predictions (13)

Hook has made one hell of an impact since arriving in AEW last year. This will be the first time he has ever competed in tag team action though, and with perhaps as unlikely a partner as you could possibly find. After proving immune to Danhausen's curse, Hook took a liking to the oddball wrestler, rescuing him from Tony Nese after he suffered a quick defeat to the former 205 Live star in his first AEW match.

That successful rescue attempt has resulted in this tag match being booked for Double Or Nothing's Buy-In. Hook might well be held back by Danhausen, but not as much as Nese will be by Mark Sterling. Hook and Danhausen to win this one, thus giving the Las Vegas crowd something to be loud about right off the bat.
